Digipak Advert Analysis

The photo on the left is the digipak advert, as you can see it is very similar to the actual digipak front cover. This could be because when the digipak is being advertised they will remember the image and therefore it will be easier to recognise the actual album when it is actually released.

The advert is a stretched version of the actual album cover and in both cases Ellie is the main feature, this could be because of Laura Mulveys idea of ‘The Male Gaze’ where in this case men would be attracted to the album cover as Ellie is very attractive and appealing to look at.

Also at the bottom of the advert there are reviews of the album and star ratings. This is a good feature to have as it reinforces people’s ideas of how good the album is and entices them to purchases the album even more. An example of one of the reviews is ‘A staggering achievement” wrote by The Fly who has also given Ellie 4 stars. This poses positive connotations as achievement means something done successfully with effort, skill, or courage.

The photo on the left is the actual album cover that Lorde released. The cover is very basic. However the black background makes the white writing stand out very prominent so it is easy to see who the artist is and what the album is called.

As for the digipak advert this is quite different however the colour scheme is very similar what the white writing on the black background.

Features of the digipack advert include a picture of the album on the poster, this shows people what they are looking for then when the actual album is released. Also it is different that the digipak advert is landscape rather than portrait which is odd for a album as they are always considered portrait rather than landscape.

The digipak includes a mid shot of the artist Lorde on the left hand side of the advert, this will attract male attention as it links in with Laura Mulvey’s male gaze as the photo of Lorde is attractive and appealing t look at which will attract a lot of male attention creating a larger audience for Lorde and her music.
